About atiya sharmeen:

I have worked in ICDDR,B for eight years (March 2007 to June 2015) .I have worked in different research projects of ICDDR,B including meta-genomics and malnutrition, vaccine trial.

Now I am working in MSF as an assistant medical coordinator. Médecins Sans Frontières(MSF) is an international independent medical aid organization committed to providing emergency medical relief to victims of epidemics, armed conflict and natural disasters and also to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. 

I have clinical, Research, management & coordination experience. According to the responsibility of the post I am already doing those things in my current job. In my previous job I have completed most of the responsibility that is needed for the post.

1. Proposal and protocol development: I have experience in protocol development. In my current job I have developed two protocol, Occupation health & mental health.

2. Strategic planning and program management: During my work in ICDDR,B  I have managed the project in supervision of PI . Preparation of weekly, monthly report submission was on of my task.I prepare the budget in supervision of my coordinator.

3. Research design and data analysis: I have planned new research activity depending on data analysis. I monitor overall research activity.

4. Technical assistance and capacity building: I have provided training to the project team on nutrition intervention research.

5. Now I actively participate in data analysis of the project. Provide training on research design, ethical issues, and data collection instruments to program personnel.

6. Coordination and networking: I maintain networking with other organization & Government.

7. Report writing and publication: I am writing an article to publish in Index international journal. Moreover I have publication in index international journal as coauthor.

8. Communication and dissemination of research findings:  I have organized national level symposium to disseminate knowledge related to our project.

 

 

Experience

From March 2017 till date

Working as Assistant Medical Co-coordinator

Medecins Sans Frontieres MSF (Holland)

Responsibilities:

Direct monitoring of the project activity:

I usually monitor the project, which is located in Kamrangirchor & Savar of Dhaka.

The following things I need to do:

a) I review the monthly medical report that I get from the project every month 

b) Monitor all the ongoing activities.

c) In Kamrangirchor we have specialized OPD for occupational health, Sexual & reproductive health, Sexual & gender based violence.

d)Every week I monitor the ongoing activity by visiting the project. I attend the team meeting & share my ideas & take the views of the supervisors of different department in implementing those ideas.

e) I write the proposal for the new integration & initiation to the programme . Example: Tetanus vaccination to the factory workers. Child health package for the factory workers. Introducing audiometry to the project.

f) For SGBV (Sexual & gender based violence) I have written the concept note for new research project : Gender Based Violence in Kamrangirchar Urban Slum, Bangladesh. Now I am working on the report writing of 5 years database of SGBV.

g) I suggest for the training of the project doctors. Depending on the need, I design the training programme for the doctors.

h)I analyses the monthly & yearly data & write the report for the submission to MoH.

i) Currently we have started mobile clinic to Savar. I have written the proposal for the starting of the new occupational health project. Now I will also monitor & supervise the project & will design new intervention depending on the need of our target population.

 

Overall support to Bangladesh Mission:

 

1) Coordination with other stockholders & GoB:

a) MSF run primary health care facility & 5 Inpatient facility (IPD), ten health post in Rohingya refugee camps . Regarding this we have to attend & arrange meeting with GoB & other UN organization. I am the Key person to organize & maintain lesion regarding taking permission of the health programme. I write proposal on new program to get permission from MoH( example: Mental health intervention on host & refuge population.)

b) Getting permission from Bangladesh research council for population survey. I have to inform the epidemiologist of headquarter about the requirements of the council. I change the protocol according the format.

c) I also represent the mission in different organizing committee. I am one of the committee member of the subcommittee of joint consultative working group of 

“Forcibly displaced Myanmar Nationals from cox’s bazar to Bhsanchar, Noakhali.” Of ministry of Disaster management & relief.

 

 

 

2) Development activities:

a) Organizing national symposium for our stable project. I take part in dissemination of knowledge, strengthening the government program.

b) Starting new preventive measures against disease (Vaccination of TT)

c) Preparing poster presentation (research presentation) in national level.

 

3) Policy planning & recruitment:

a) I am a part of recruitment process of medical staff (Doctor, Nurse, Medical assistant)

b) I actively participate in yearly operation plan.

c) I make the recruitment policy depending on the national guideline of recruiting medical staff in all the project.

 

4) Research:

a) I analyze the data & write article to submit in Index journal. I have submitted one article in British Medical journal.

b)  Collaborate with other research organization (ICDDR,B CIPRB) for new research initiative.

 

c)I have actively participated in a survey “Building Capacity for Community Mental Health Care in Bangladesh” done in collaboration with MoH. This abstract has been presented in UN general assembly which was held on 26th September 2018 in USA . 

 

d) Edited the protocol of “Baseline health survey in Kutupalong and Balukhali settlement camps, Bangladesh October 2018”

e) Edited the protocol on 

“Assessing the feasibility of preventing injury risks and improving work safety amongst factory workers in an urban slum: a participatory before-and-after intervention.”

Actively participated in the development of the protocol, field visit on occupational health.

 

f) Actively participated in a project on “Model Factory Intervention Kamrangirchar Urban Slum Project”

 

g) I have to write abstract to represent the Bangladesh mission to different international conferences.

 

h) I have submitted an abstract on

 

“Diphtheria Out-break Response among the Rohingya Population, Ukhiya Upazilla, Cox’s Bazar, 2017-2018 ,MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (MSF) Bangladesh.” It will be present in the conference of “Bangladesh tropical medicine & toxicology”

 

5) Staff health: All the complicated staff health of national staff & international staff is referred to me. I am responsible for any medical evacuation of International staff.

a) I am responsible for implementation of national staff health policy. I monitor medical reimbursement of staff.

b) I am responsible for Expatiate staff health. If any medical evacuation needed, I contact with the international SOS, if the case is manageable in the country I consult with other specialized consultant. 

 

6) I am also responsible for the mission medical decision taking when the medical coordinator is away from the country.

 

7) Medical data analysis & intervention plan: I have to check all the daily patient data & measure the disease trend & the incidence rate of the disease & need to detect the presence of new disease.

According to the need I have to inform the medical coordinator to start vaccination campaign or screening of the disease.

Currently we are working in emergency response in Rohyngia refuge.

Depending on the patients number I inform the coordinator to expand health facility

Worked as Project Research Physician, Infectious Disease Division ICDDR,B

Study Name: Dengue vaccine trial.(Phase II)

 

Responsibility:

 

1. I was involved in screening and enrollment of study participants in different ongoing research projects, regular patient care and emergency patient management which includes physical examination, history taking and proper documentation of findings in CRFs and relevant study sample collection

2. Giving treatment and management of study participant.

3. Screening for vaccination, Pre and post vaccination follow up

4. Providing treatment & management to all study patients & their family members. 

5. Blood sample collection   from all enrolled subjects. 

3. Support to the Field staff in the following ways:

4. Motivation of non-co-operative parents of study participants.

5. Counsel the mother to come for follow up visit.

Responsibilities as a Medical Officer:-

1. I was involved in screening and enrollment of study participants in different ongoing research projects, regular patient care and emergency patient management which includes physical examination, history taking and proper documentation of findings in CRFs and relevant study sample collection

 

2. Attending on call sick hospitalized patient visit at Dhaka hospital, ICDDR,B and other hospital in Dhaka city as and when required. Participated in different project related training conducted by principal investigator (PI) as well as in quality assurance exercise periodically.

3. "Pneumococcal protein vaccine phase” -1 trial (PPrV) and Tri-valent Influenza Vaccine .Efficacy trial and Live-attenuated Influenza vaccine safety and immunogenicity trial (Phase II)".

 

4. "A randomized, double –blind, placebo-controlled Trial on the clinical Efficacy and Safety of a single Dose of Trivalent Seasonal Live –Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV Phase- III) among   children aged 24 – 59 months."

Responsibilities as a Medical Officer:-

 

1. Role as Physician :

1. Providing treatment & management to all study patients & their family members. 

2.  Blood sample collection from all enrolled patients. 

3.  Visit to the nutrition centre twice a month. 

4. Giving vaccination to the study participants.

5. Treating the field staff as staff physician.

 

2. Monitoring:

a) Conducting training for the field staff on how to give motivation of non-co-operative parents of study participants. Counsel the mother to come for monthly follow up visit. How to counsel the mother to take nutritional supplementation for their children.

I worked during Swain flu epidemic at august 2009. 

 

1. Screening of all respiratory illness.
