    The incumbent will support the development of the landslide early warning system (LEWS) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and contribute to the development of an Anticipatory Action Protocol (AAP) on landslides. The incumbent will be interacting with various project stakeholders in the execution of the projects.

    Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead the monitoring of Landslides and the testing of the LEWS in coordination with the BDRCS and CPP-trained volunteers and the BMD.
  • Manage the LEWS hotline and conduct field inventories of affected sites.
  • Lead the drafting of the Landslide EWS SOP and AAP in liaison with the LEWS Development Specialist and other relevant FAO personnel.
  • Support FAO ́s efforts of validation and institutionalization of the Landslide EWS SOP and AAP.
  • Lead the collection, verification, and analysis of data on landslides.
  • Support the identification and drafting of training modules, anticipatory action actions including warning messages, and other communication materials for national public institutions, volunteers and communities.
  • Contribute to the development of programme and project work plans, technical specifications, activity monitoring plans, and other documentation and reports
  • Maintain and expand partnerships with key government and development/humanitarian partners in line with FAO strategic objectives in Cox Bazar.
  • Maintain detailed and a clear documentation of all NRM activities planned and implemented.
  • Report to the project team on all relevant activities/engagements, as well as flag to the Landslide Early Warning System Development Expert and/or Emergency and Resilience Programme Coordinator on any challenges faced for the implementation of tasks assigned.
  • Assist the work of FAO for the identification, implementation and/or advocacy of Shock Responsive Social Protection Modalities to mitigate the impact of Landslides on the beneficiary population.
  • Organize and lead technical content referring to landslides on meetings/training/workshops and other public/private events based on the project ́s needs.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the Emergency and Resilience Programme Coordinator.
  • Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in earth sciences, geology/geography, meteorology, disaster risk management, natural resources and environmental management, or related fields;
  • Minimum of Seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in landslide mitigation and management
  • National of Bangladesh
  • Working knowledge of English and Bengali
  • Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to perform in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary contexts;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision;
