Research Officer (Adv#271/2023)

Population Science Research Group under the Health System and Population Studies Division is assessing the performance of different mortality data collection tools to improve adult mortality estimates in population-based surveys. The study title is "Validation of mobile phone survey in capturing siblings' and parental deaths in low and lower-middle income countries: a case study in Matlab, Bangladesh." The study aims to inform population and health researchers, and policymakers about the reliability (in terms of accuracy of collected data) of different mortality data collection tools in capturing death events and related information.


Position Description:

The Research Officer will be directly involved in the data management, analysis, and manuscript drafting and report to the Principal Investigator. S/he will be responsible to:

• Plan and organize statistical analysis for cross-sectional survey data and relational data from demographic surveillance. Data management (e.g., cleaning and processing) will be essential to the data analysis activities;
• Apply demographic measures and methods;
• Apply standard tools to capture fertility and mortality events;
• Design community-based surveys and ensure data quality;
• Provide training to the data collection team;
• Conduct literature review and draft reports and manuscripts;
• Prepare PowerPoint presentations.

Required qualifications and experience:

• Masters in Applied Statistics/Statistics from a reputed university with good academic records;
• At least 2 years of experience in relevant fields.
• Working experience in applying demographic measures and methods, and standard data collection tools for fertility and mortality studies will be given preference.
• Hands-on experience in using STATA or R;
• Statistical approaches used in demographic and public health research, including study design, sampling design, and advanced statistical analysis;

Location: Mohakhali Campus, Dhaka

Contract Type and Duration:

• Short Term Contractual Service Agreement basis; duration will be 5 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk.57,048/-(consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances.
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
