    Description

    The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is dedicated to fighting global hunger and supporting those impacted by conflict, disasters, and climate change across 80+ countries.

    The recently launched Gender Policy prioritizes fair access to food, addressing gender disparities in food security, and empowering women and girls economically.

    Since 1974, WFP has been active in Bangladesh, focusing on gender equality and collaborating closely with the UN and national priorities.

    The WFP Country Office in Bangladesh is looking for a Programme Policy Officer specializing in Gender and Protection.

    • Policy Integration and Technical Support:
    Provide technical aid to embed WFP's Protection and Accountability Policy and Gender Policy into Bangladesh operations, aligning with broader humanitarian and human rights frameworks.
    • Analysis and Stakeholder Engagement:
    Analyze input from different stakeholders to incorporate a protection and gender lens in crisis interventions and collaborate with local actors to strengthen protection and accountability.
    • Risk and Communication Mapping:
    Conduct protection and conflict risk assessments, develop a risk matrix, and update communication strategies regularly to meet the changing needs of affected populations.
    • Data Management and Monitoring:
    Systematically gather and analyze relevant data to oversee and report on the implementation of protection, accountability, gender, and inclusion elements within program activities.
    • Representation and Outcome Development:
    Represent WFP in interagency forums, contribute to crafting gender-focused guidelines and action plans, while expanding professional connections and expertise in gender mainstreaming.

    For the Swiss JPO programme:

    • Swiss nationality
    • Not older than 32 years at the date of the first round of interviews
    • Fluency in English and a second UN language
    • Master's degree
    • Strong interest in a longer-term career with the United Nations

    For this position:

    • Master's degree
    or equivalent in social sciences, gender, international development, human rights, or similar.
    • Minimum of 2 years, preferably 3 years relevant working experience in gender equality and possibly protection within humanitarian and/or development settings.
    • Fluency in English.
    • Prior experience in drafting and editing technical guidance and demonstrated capability to produce high-quality written documents.
    • Behavioral Competencies: exemplifies integrity, drives results, fosters teamwork, strategic thinking, and cultivates partnerships.
